Modeling an Energy-Efficient MAC Layer Protocol

چکیده
In wireless adhoc networks, channel and energy capacities are scarce resources. In our previous work we proposed BLAM, a new energy aware MAC layer enhancement for the IEEE 802.11 protocol to save the energy and channel capacity wasted in collisions. In this paper we introduce a collision model to analytically compare BLAM to the IEEE 802.11. Using this model we provide worst-case and best-case analysis for BLAM’s behavior. We verified the correctness of the model using simulation analysis. Furthermore, for real network traffic, we show that in a WLAN BLAM can achieve an 8% increase in the network lifetime and an increaseof about 40% in the total number of receivedpackets. This paper complements the previous results obtained for a mutihop adhoc network.

Modeling and Performance Evaluation of Energy Consumption in S-MAC Protocol Using Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets
One of the features of wireless sensor networks is that the nodes in this network have limited power sources. Therefore, assessment of energy consumption in these networks is very important. What has been common practice has been the use of traditional simulators to evaluate the energy consumption of the nodes in these networks. Simulators often have problems such as fluctuating output values i...

This paper presents an Energy Efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for clustered wireless sensor networks that aims to improve energy efficiency and delay performance. The proposed protocol employs an adaptive cross-layer intra-cluster scheduling and an inter-cluster relay selection diversity. The scheduling is based on available data packets and remaining energy level of the source n...
متن کاملLifetime Maximization by Cross-Layer Design considering Power Control, MAC, Routing in Sensor Networks
We consider the cross-layer design considering physical layer, MAC layer, and network layer to maximize the lifetime of energy-constrained wireless sensor network. Our solution is based on system model that considers reliability as well as physical layer (i.e., power control), data link layer (i.e., link scheduling) and network layer (i.e., routing protocol) jointly. To obtain more energy-effic...
